Our client owns and runs an Independent School catering for children between the ages of 2 ½ and 11 years old. The owner and Headmistress, having previously owned a highly respected and successful Nursery school nearby, was in the final stages of developing this school into an established Independent in the local area. However, whilst the running of the school from an educational viewpoint had always been successful, the finances had not been. When Beer & Young were approached, the business was at a critical stage. The very existence of the school was under serious threat, and without urgent rescue capital, it would have closed its doors at the end of the Winter Term 2007. Beer & Young leapt into action, generating interest from 8 investors. Three of these showed significant interest; within a very short period of time offers of funding from two parties were generated. Beer & Young stayed close to the investment process at all times, supporting the owner with crucial creditor issues and advising on investment terms. We were delighted to complete this project prior to the end of the Winter Term. Throughout the whole process there was never any disruption to the children’s education – all credit goes to the Headmistress for this effort. From our point of view it is worth noting that the stakeholders position has been maintained – the bank’s position has been regularized, creditors support continues. The incoming investor will add significant management skills to the future running of the School.
