Nick is the founder and managing director of Beer & Young Ltd having established the business in 1998. Beer & Young are best known for raising capital quickly, predominantly from business angels, for businesses that are experiencing financial pressures. Nick established his first business at the end of the Eighties, advising companies on fund raising, accessing both equity and debt capital. For the last twenty years he has been delivering help and funding solutions to businesses, always in the SME arena, and given this experience, is well placed to understand the problems and needs of business owners through this current turbulent economic period. Nick has won a place on the insolvency Power 100 list. This list provides a breakdown of the most influential professionals operating across the industry. In 2012 Nick was chosen to be part of a small panel chaired by Lord Young of Graffham, discussing the market for business angels investing in the UK. These meetings were held at 10 Downing Street, which was a privilege.

Trained as an accountant, Michael spent 10 years with a public company, finally in the position of Group Company Secretary. Since then he has run various small businesses and undertaken management consultancy assignments with a particular emphasis on turnaround finance and corporate recovery situations, gaining particular experience working with Insolvency Practitioners. Michael has intimate knowledge of small business practice as well as company insolvency rules. He is therefore able to understand the difficulties many entrepreneurs are faced with and expertly able to assist with company recovery.

He has worked for a non-prime lender in the vehicle finance sector since 1998 and prior to this has had considerable management experience with small/medium sized manufacturing companies.

Cowper qualified as a Chartered Accountant with Ernst & Young and has worked in financial brokering for 20 years, across the world: in the City of London, Isle of Man, Detroit, Bangkok, Beijing and Harare. His particular flair is for setting up meetings, introducing the principals to an agreement and serving as an intermediary to make transactions happen.

Jon Radford Associate Email - jon.radford@beerandyoung.com Mobile - 07979 857 614 Jon Radford trained as a civil engineer and worked for Cleveland Bridge and RT James and Partners, before moving to Spain to become the technical director of Hoteles Cryns. He returned to the UK in 1986 to join Industrial Technology Securities, a venture capital firm, before moving to the corporate finance department of Belmont Bank ltd, a boutique bank specialising in raising money for privately owned companies. Latterly he owned and ran his own printing company which he sold in 2003, since when he has built-up a consultancy business, under the aegis of the Institute for Independent Management (IIBI). Along the way he also picked-up two business degrees. He is a sympathetic listener, with large experience of the issues besetting private companies, as well as the practical problems of raising finance for them.

Martin Rowe Associate Email - martin.rowe@beerandyoung.com Mobile - 07766 110 582 After experience in engineering and shipping Martin joined Total, one of the World’s largest corporations as part of its graduate development programme in 1985. Over the next 20 years he held many positions of increasing seniority in its downstream business segment. As one of Total’s “interpreneurs” he developed numerous international initiatives across a wide range of businesses in the UK, France, Belgium and the USA. This brought him into contact with many small under-performing operations where he developed his managerial expertise in turnaround and acquisitions. In 2005 he left Total to pursue his own business interests and has built a portfolio career as a business advisor and non-executive director. His holds a number of equity stakes in businesses he continues to support. He brings to Beer & Young not only his well-developed experience in but also an entrepreneur’s facility so seek out and develop opportunity into profitable reality. He is based in Marlow and has business contacts throughout the United Kingdom and Western Europe. Martin’s public service has seen him hold a charity trusteeship and he was last Independent Chairman of the Standards Committee at Buckinghamshire County Council.

Aristos Peters Associate E-mail - aristos.peters@beerandyoung.com Mobile- 07798 867 756 Aristos Peters had an early business career with BT before establishing several digitally based businesses including: a digital service agency, a SaaS analytics company, an online social information portal and an online retailer, several of which attract business angel funding. More recently he has been involved in corporate finance fundraising for early stage businesses. Other recent activities include involvement with a Silicon Valley accelerator, a US venture capital organisation and involvement with an international angel investment group.

He as an in-depth understanding of the trials and tribulations that face a business with cashflow difficulties, and specialises in somewhat unconventional solutions to seemingly unsolvable problems. A keen sportsman and father of four, Simon has recently sold his family business and joined the team at Beer & Young.

Hilary Bishop Associate E-mail - hilary.bishop@beerandyoung.com Mobile- 07768 667 490 Hilary has re-joined Beer & Young Ltd. as an Associate whilst continuing to run his own consultancy involved in the provision of business and corporate finance advice to SME’s. His involvement in finance started over 35 years ago in the creation of a substantial vehicle leasing operation for a major motor manufacturer. He subsequently created a ‘tax based’ leasing operation for a manufacturing company and then another vehicle leasing operation for a major vehicle distributor. He started his own consultancy 30 years ago and now has a substantial network of lenders and contacts allowing him to handle any business or corporate finance requirement. Hilary’s wide range of entrepreneurial experience in businesses large and small means that he is very well equipped to analyse the needs of companies with financial difficulties and/or great potential.

Peter Dudley Associate E-mail - peter.dudley@beerandyoung.com Mobile- 07900 605 010 Peter spent 30 years working in large corporations in the fields of IT and telecommunications. He was a General Manager in Nortel, group telecoms director at BP and CTO of RSA(UK) and has served on the Boards of start up technology companies in the USA, China and Taiwan. He set up his first business in 2001 and the second in 2005.  For the last 5 years he has been a mentor and business coach to small and medium sized businesses, helping them survive and then recover strongly following the recession.  Clients tend to stay with him for the long term and have seen big improvements in net profits, one in particular growing from near break-even to an EBT of 40% within 12 months. A good communicator, he works easily at all levels and is able to recognise value, crystallise the issues and present the facts and investment options clearly. Peter is married with four children and is an active member of the IT Livery Company, supporting charitable causes. This includes pro bono work with disabled people, especially mentoring those running their own small business, but also supporting members of the Armed Forces who are considering setting up in business after their Forces career.

Originally trained by Ford over 30 years ago but since 1998 he has specialised in AIM and Plus flotation’s, business and corporate finance solutions, business rescue and restructuring specialising in the refinancing and rescue of Companies with cash flow issues and financial management issues which includes creditor/debtor management, accountancy, franchising, sales and marketing solutions, and any other business issues. Specialist in businesses that are experiencing some form of difficulty whether it be a downturn in business, cash flow problems, financing problems, shareholder disputes or any business issue no matter how complex.
